Since the player salary reform, high level hattrick teams have been battling with the high wages of their most skilled players. The impact of wages is such that many teams are now counting very carefully all cash they put in the salaries.

Optimizing wages means first to understand what level of salaries you want to reach, this of course will vary a lot depending on the level of division you are in, the number of games you will win in this division and the number of cup rounds you will play. Although, I don’t intend here to talk about which level of salary is acceptable, you should be on the safe side and never overestimate the budget you can spend on salaries of players.

From my experience collected reading the conferences, the mainstream ideas to start with the optimization of the players for a certain level of team salary are listed hereafter. The last points of the list assume that you use a mainstream 352 tactic:
- prefer local players instead of foreign players in order to spare the 20% salary, in particular for expensive players
- look for players with good secondaries and appropriate specialties
- first put the high salaries in midfield, it is not rare to see high level teams putting 50% of the total team salary there
- buy a good keeper, as he can win levels of defense buy himself
- fill in defenders and forward spots with what is left of your salary budget as you estimated it earlier

Those of course are very basic ideas, which should get you started in optimizing your salary for your team. And if you get the virus of salary optimization, it will take you seasons before you’ll start being satisfied with your salary situation.
