November 3, 2006 in Luxembourg / Tips, Tactics
Spora is the reference in Luxembourg, with the most national titles and a team that seems unbeatable for most of the teams who cross its way. In the last 10 months over the year 2006, Spora recorded only 3 losses! A figure that none of us will ever achieve. Of course, many are trying to copy its style to try to achieve the same success however it is most likely that way that you’ll always follow and never beat zuzut’s galactic team.
If I had to name the key strength of Spora, I would of course say the midfield with luxemburgish players who have been the cornerstone of our national teams for many seasons. In that respect, the experience levels of those players will be very difficult to ever match. Of course, due to the relative poor quality of the youth pulls on the first seasons those guys don’t have the top secondaries you would hope, but still, they are the best midfield of the country.
As mentioned earlier, Spora recorded 3 losses this year, lets look more closely at those 3 games:
17.9.2006 (League): Gainesvillerockcity - Spora 6 - 1 : an humiliation, despite Spora’s dominance in midfield, its lack of defense relatively close midfield level and very good attack from its opponent, made andrew score many of its occasions. Spora has a tendency to neglect defence, and has never over emphasized attack (no 343 or AOW for example)
13.6.2006 (Hattrick Masters): Spora - FC Murikka 1 - 2: its opponent played a very good counter attacking tactic with 2 important aspects on top of the high defense level: keeping a decent midfield level as possession ended up at 59-41, and having very good attack level that would help connecting all CA chances
31.5.2006 (Cup): Sandweiler - Spora 4 - 3:
Basically, here I don’t see any rational explanation, Sandweiler did not have a great confidence at the time which would have explain why they scored so many goals with reduced possession. It is a sign that if you play you best team, there is still a chance that you’ll be lucky and end up making up the surprise.
Those 3 defeats highlight very well the 3 methods that one should think of when trying to beat a highly dominant midfield team:
- try to match midfield levels as close as you can and bring you defense and attack levels so high that you can win the game by letting him score less goals while ensuring you score your opportunities
- playing what i call a good CA, not simply throwing away midfield for high defense ratings
- pure luck
And of course I wish a lot of success to all of you trying to beat better teams!
